AI assistant

Xeneric's assistant runs on OpenAI with your own API key, or on Claude Code with your Claude login.

Ask about your day: Xeneric reads your calendar and answers in the bar.Try it live

Two brains#

Xeneric's assistant answers questions and acts for you: it has tools for opening apps and links and reading your calendar, and shows a short “Used …” line for each one it calls. It runs on one of two brains.

OpenAI#

The default. Paste your OpenAI API key in the welcome tour or in Dashboard → Integrations → OpenAI. It powers answers, actions and writing, and it's stored in the macOS Keychain. Create a key at platform.openai.com.

Claude Code#

Turn on Claude Code as brain in Dashboard → Integrations to answer with your installed claude CLI instead. It's billed to your Claude login, needs no API key, and can use the MCP servers you set up in Claude Code. Voice still uses OpenAI.

Tell Xeneric about you#

Dashboard → You → “What Xeneric knows about you”: your name, a few lines about you, and your writing style. Every answer and everything Xeneric writes for you uses them. They're stored only on this Mac (encrypted) and sent with your requests to OpenAI.

Response speed#

Dashboard → General → Response speed: Fast (default), Balanced or Thorough. Fast answers, or more thinking for harder requests.

Conversations#

Conversations are saved on your Mac, so chats survive a restart. Clear them in Dashboard → Data, or have old ones deleted automatically after 7, 30 or 90 days in Dashboard → Privacy → Delete old chats.
