Talk to Xeneric#

Tap the mic in the Xeneric bar and ask out loud. Xeneric answers sentence by sentence as the reply is written, and speaks it when Speak replies is on (the default). Short filler lines play while it thinks. Needs the Microphone permission. Voice uses OpenAI.

Hands-free conversation#

With Hands-free conversation on, Xeneric keeps listening after a spoken answer, so you can just reply. Talk over it to interrupt; it stops to hear you.

Clap twice to wake#

Dashboard → General → Clap twice to wake Xeneric. Off unless you turn it on. While it's on the microphone stays open, but only sound levels are checked; nothing is recorded and no audio leaves your Mac.

Two claps chooses what happens: Start listening (default), or Show my day.

Voice and accent#

In Dashboard → Voice:

Speak replies: When you ask by voice, Xeneric answers out loud.
Hands-free conversation: Keep listening after a spoken answer.
Voice: How Xeneric sounds: Cedar (default), Marin, Ash, Verse, Ballad, Coral, Sage, Onyx, Nova or Alloy.
Accent: British (default), American, Indian, Australian or Irish.
Test microphone and speaker: Check that Xeneric hears you and that its voice plays.
