Lens and spotlight
Xeneric Lens (⌥⇧Z) magnifies the screen around your pointer; the spotlight (⌥⇧L) dims everything else.
Xeneric Lens#
⌥⇧Z opens Xeneric Lens: a magnifier for the screen around the pointer. It rides beside the pointer and moves out of the way near the edges. Clicks go straight through it, so you keep working underneath. It needs the Screen Recording permission; nothing is recorded or saved.
Keys while the lens is open#
| ⌥= | Zoom in |
| ⌥− | Zoom out |
| ⌥[ | Smaller |
| ⌥] | Bigger |
| ⌥Scroll | Zoom without scrolling the app underneath (needs Accessibility) |
| Esc | Close the lens |
Zoom and size changes while it's open last until it closes.
Lens settings#
In Dashboard → Lens:
- Shape
- A rounded rectangle, or a circle.
- Zoom
- How much it magnifies when it opens (2× by default).
- Size
- Its size when it opens. A circle is as wide as the average of the two sides.
- Position
- Beside the pointer, or fixed in the top-right corner of the screen you're on.
- Smooth motion
- The lens glides after the pointer instead of jumping.
- Crosshair
- A small cross where the pointer is.
- Invert colors, Grayscale
- Inside the lens only.
Cursor spotlight#
⌥⇧L dims the screen except a circle around the pointer, so everyone on the call knows where to look. Esc turns it off. Its size and darkness are in Dashboard → Cursor (Cursor).
