FreeUp
See where your disk space went and free it safely. Your files go to the Trash; macOS and your apps are never touched.
Open FreeUp#
Open FreeUp from the notch, the left-edge rail, the menu, or by typing “storage” in the Xeneric bar. It shows where your space went, folder by folder; click any folder to look inside it, biggest first.
Quick cleanup#
Quick cleanup clears app caches, logs, package downloads, Xcode leftovers and Mail attachments. Apps make these again when they need them.
A full scan#
A full scan also finds:
- Old
node_modules,targetand.nextfolders, installers, old downloads and screenshots. - Duplicates, big forgotten files, iPhone backups and leftovers of apps you deleted.
- Apps you haven't opened in months, local AI models (Ollama, Hugging Face, LM Studio), Android emulators, old Homebrew versions and the Go module cache.
How FreeUp stays safe#
- Nothing goes until you confirm
- Scanning only reads. You pick what to clean, then confirm.
- Your files go to the Trash
- Downloads, big files, duplicates and project folders can be put back. Caches and logs are deleted, since apps rebuild them.
- Hands off the system
- Never touches macOS, your apps, Mail, Messages, iCloud or anything outside your home folder.
- Full Disk Access (optional)
- Lets FreeUp look in the Trash, Mail attachments and iPhone backups too.
Disk almost full#
Tell me when the disk is almost full (Dashboard → FreeUp) puts a heads-up in the notch when less than 10% (or 15 GB) is free, at most once a day.
