Sound mixer
A volume slider and output for every app, plus your master volume, output and microphone. Open it with ⌥⇧M.
Open the mixer#
Press ⌥⇧M or pick Sound in the left-edge rail. Xeneric Sound shows a slider for each app playing audio, your master volume, output and input.
Per-app volume#
Turn Slack down without touching Spotify, or boost a quiet app past 100%. Per-app volume uses audio taps from macOS 14.4 and needs the System Audio Recording permission; on older macOS, master volume and outputs still work. The mixer steps aside while an app uses the microphone, so calls don't echo.
Outputs and input#
- Send any app to its own output: music on the speakers, a call in your headphones.
- Pick your microphone, set its level and mute it.
- Save sets of levels as presets.
Mixer settings#
In Dashboard → Sound:
- Remember app volumes
- An app you turned down plays at that volume the next time it starts.
- Announce output changes
- A short “Now playing on …” in the notch when the output changes.
- Show the microphone level
- A live level in the Input card. It opens the mic (and shows the recording indicator) only while the mixer is showing.
- Remembered volumes, App outputs, Presets
- Review and reset them.
Reset puts an app back at 100% (or on the system output). Mutes last until you quit Xeneric.
