Notch
The island over your Mac's notch: now playing, your day, heads-ups, quick ask and a drop shelf for files.
Hover to open#
Point at the notch and a black island grows out of it with what's playing, the date and a quick question box. Move away and it tucks back in. On a screen without a camera notch, Xeneric shows just its eye in a small circle at the top.
Now playing shows Spotify with playback controls once you connect it in Dashboard → Integrations (no Spotify login; macOS asks for Automation).
Your day#
When Xeneric starts (at login or from Applications) the notch says good morning or evening and shows how your day starts: a greeting, the weather and your first events. Turn it off with Greet me when Xeneric starts, or bring it back anytime with Show my day now (Dashboard → General).
Heads-ups#
- A heads-up before each calendar event (Calendar).
- “Disk almost full” from FreeUp.
- “Now playing on …” when your audio output changes (Dashboard → Sound).
- Other apps' notifications, with Full Disk Access and Show your Mac's notifications on.
Also show in Notification Center keeps notices in the system list too. Send a test notification shows how they look.
The drop shelf#
Start dragging files anywhere and the notch opens into drop zones:
- Hold
- Keep the files on the shelf for later.
- Convert
- Change the format.
- Edit
- One image: crop, draw, filters in the Xeneric Editor.
- Share
- Send to an app.
- AirDrop
- Nearby devices.
Files dropped on the open notch go on the shelf. See Files.
Notch settings#
